Face weight is measured as a per unit area of pile yarn floor coverings according to ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials). A higher face weight means more yarn and more yarn makes for a longer-lasting product. Most carpets have a face-weight between 20 ounces and 100 ounces per square yard.
